Accessibility Statement

Last updated: April 1, 2026

1. Our commitment

Contractor Near Me is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards.

We believe that finding a trusted local contractor should not be harder for someone using a screen reader, navigating with a keyboard, or operating in a high-contrast mode. Accessibility is treated as an ongoing requirement, not a one-time project.

2. Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. WCAG 2.1 defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.

Contractor Near Me is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. "Partially conformant" means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard. We are actively working to bring the entire site to full conformance.

3. Supported assistive technologies

Contractor Near Me is designed to work with the following assistive technologies and combinations:

  • Latest versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari with the screen readers built into the operating system (VoiceOver on macOS / iOS, TalkBack on Android, Narrator on Windows)
  • NVDA and JAWS on recent Windows versions
  • Keyboard-only navigation (Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, Space, Arrow keys, Escape)
  • Browser zoom up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
  • OS-level high-contrast and reduce-motion preferences

4. Accessibility features in place

  • Semantic HTML. Headings, landmarks, lists, and form labels are coded with the appropriate elements so assistive technologies can announce structure correctly.
  • Keyboard navigation. All interactive elements (links, buttons, form fields, modal dialogs) are reachable and usable with a keyboard, with a visible focus indicator on every focusable item.
  • Color contrast. Body text and interactive elements meet or exceed the WCAG AA minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1.
  • Alt text on meaningful images. Decorative images use empty alt=""; informative images include descriptive alternative text.
  • Form validation. Required fields are marked, error messages are programmatically associated with their inputs, and successful submissions show a confirmation rather than silently completing.
  • Resizable text. The site uses relative font sizes and is fully usable when the browser zoom is increased.
  • No information by color alone. Status indicators (verified badge, error state, success state) combine color with an icon or text label.

5. Known limitations

Despite our efforts, the following accessibility issues are known and on our roadmap to fix:

  • A small number of contractor profile photos are missing descriptive alt text. We are working with contractors to provide accurate alternatives.
  • Some legacy blog posts may not have been authored with accessibility in mind. New posts follow our checklist, and older posts are being audited.
  • Search filters use checkbox patterns that work with keyboard and screen readers, but the visual focus ring on disabled options could be more prominent.
  • Embedded third-party widgets (e.g. social-media icons in the footer, when wired up) inherit the accessibility level of their providers.

If you encounter an issue not listed here, please tell us — see the feedback section below.

6. Feedback & contact

We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of Contractor Near Me. Please let us know if you encounter accessibility barriers:

We try to respond to accessibility feedback within 2 business days and to propose a solution within 10 business days.

7. Formal complaints
